Artist Statement
Stefanie Schwarzwimmer is a media artist and graphic designer based in Berlin. Her artistic practice explores spaces, images, and everyday situations as carriers of social and psychological conditions. She is interested in subtle shifts within familiar structures—moments in which something appears simultaneously ordinary and uncanny, believable and artificial.
Her work often begins with private interiors, working environments, consumption, digital self-presentation, and self-optimization. Schwarzwimmer observes, reconstructs, and alters these situations using 3D, film, sound, and voiceover. Realistic computer-generated images become entry points into artificial worlds where documentation and fiction overlap.
She understands spaces as stages on which social ideas about work, productivity, consumption, and living together become visible. Her work examines how images, spaces, and narratives not only depict reality but participate in constructing it. Humor, absurdity, and unreliable narratives create moments of disorientation in which the familiar begins to reveal its own artificiality.
